Back from our trip (barely), but Taking Monday Off

I won't claim this as a new cartoon, but at least it's something!  Back from our Nevada trip, and behind on everything here, so after much foot dragging, I'm declaring a rare week-off here.  We'll be back next week with new munchy-crunchy Minionness!

Greetings, Rouge Automatons!

Okay, it's no secret that we here at Minions Studios are big fans of the show Mythbusters!  It's a virtual encyclopedia of destruction and mayhem, all done in the most convoluted, difficult, and scientific manner possible, and that's pretty much how we roll!  Why develop your evil plans based on simplicity and reliability when can attempt to pull off something with real style?

Of course, our evil plans never seem to work, and when there's an explosion, we're usually trapped in the middle of it.  But that's a small price to pay to achieve the high level of madness we look for in our science.

Just as a warning, Mrs. Minion Master and I will be heading down to Las Vegas through the last week of the month (with weekend side-trip to Los Angeles).  These plans are coming at the last minutes, so I'm scrambling to get Minions cartoons lined up.  Be assured that SOMETHING will post here while we're gone.  I just make no promises as to what, or how good it will be.  (Maybe it will be the funniest cartoons ever, but I wouldn't make book on it.)

Anyway, see you guys next week.

Greetings of whatever pleases you, Heathens, Hanukkah Hailers, and Holy Rollers!

There, now that I've ignited a holy war (I told you we were evil!), on to other business.  Yes, I'm late this week.  It's the Holidays (several of them), so shoot me (and I will claw my way from the grave, more powerful than you can imagine, thirsting for revenge and the cool, refreshing taste of Diet Pepsi!).

But since I was late, I figured I'd get that whole, annoying "200" thing out of the way and just give the the dubious present of a double-feature this week!  Like I said, I haven't come up with anything worthy of our "second century," so I'm just going to cruise past and celebrate later (or possibly wait for #250) to try and pull off something cool.  Better that than interrupt the flow of the site or rush something half-assed out the door that isn't worth the trouble.

Hey, if you (or anyone you know) has any interest in writing, you might enjoy a new site we launched in our little blog-empire this week.  It's the official blog of Sydney T. Cat, the world's worst literary agent (because she's a CAT!).  Come on over and see how  Sydney's "help" shreds writer's work and their careers.  You'll laugh a little, and you might just learn something.  Please pass it on.  Find it at:

Greetings, Hangers Out-to-dry!

We're headed down to California and Comicon, and so Minions at Work will be on auto-pilot for the next couple weeks. Cartoons are still being posted, but I may not be around to post reminders.

By the way, I'm thinking about working up a "Minions at Work" card game, just as a lark. It would be a fast, fun, party game, with lots of yelling, role-playing, and foolishness, and naturally it would features all your regular characters here at Minions at Work.

Would anyone be interested in seeing this? Based on what I'm seeing so far, I should be able to offer these through an on-line these through an on-line print-on-demand company I've found (like Cafe Press, except for games instead of tee-shirts) for somewhere in the $10-12 range. A bit steep for a card-game maybe, but I won't offer it up unless I think you'll get $12 worth of fun out of it.

I'm going down to Gamecon in LA later this year. Maybe we can have something ready for testing by then.

Greetings, Bad Robots!

Yes, the machines are doing all the work this week. My Happy Robot Butler is posting this, as I'm currently in Las Vegas for the weekend! Actually, I should be home Sunday night, but by then, the robot should have a lot more brains than I do.

Anyway, that means this is your chance to post lots of rude/clever comments that I won't get around to seeing until Monday. Have at it!

Minions Need a New Pair of Shoes

Actually, they've got plenty of shoes. Boots is more like it. But they could use a new camera.

It's by no means urgent, but the trusty Canon Powershot A530 I've been using to shoot the cartoon for the past few years is getting a little long in the tooth. It's still working more or less fine, but every once in a while the "eyelid" shutter that protects the lens when it's turned off sticks, and I know that one of these days something is going to break on it in a way that isn't worth fixing.

For some time I've had my eye on the Canon Powershot SX101S:

Actually, I've had my eye on the two previous similar models. Yes, I've been wanting this for that long.

The improved resolution, image stabilization, and expanded zoom range would really help me take advantage of our new, larger "stage," and it has a great movie mode for doing our occasional Minion web-videos.

Trouble is, I just can't justify the expense right now. I don't know if you folks realize, but I put quite a bit of money into Minions at Work already; building and buying props, buying lighting equipment, buying new action figures, etc. Some of this is stuff I might have added to my collection anyway (and a lot of things come out of my existing collection) but a lot of it is stuff that exists for Minions, and nothing else. And heck, I've literally got to keep the lights on here, and devote a huge lot of my work-space to storing all the props and sets I'm not using.

So I limp along, hoping nothing critical goes wrong with the camera that forces me to replace it with something not worthy of the task.

So, I'm starting a little fund-drive here. You see the price up there. I'm not seriously expecting the Minion-verse will come up with the whole ticket (though it would be nice), and I'm hoping that with careful shopping, I can pick it up closer to $300 than $350. But it would be nice, if you enjoy Minions at Work, that you chip in a little in whatever way you can.

Multiple ways you can do that. The most direct is just to click on one of our donation buttons and send a little cash our way. Doesn't have to be much. Skip one of those stupid, over-priced coffees and send it to the forces of evil.

Or you can clip through one of our Amazon banners and buy something from them, a new book, a video, a graphic novel, an action figure, a 50" plasma TV, whatever. If you buy it direction from Amazon U.S., we get a little sliver of the action. (You could just buy us the damned camera. That would really cut out the middle man.)

Or you can buy something from our Lair of Merchandise or House of Naughty stores, a shirt, a button, a lovely thong. Again, I've done my best to keep these items priced low, so we don't make a lot off most of them, but every little bit helps.

Failing that, you can help us build traffic on the site, so that OTHER people will do the clicking and buying for you. As Dennis Leary says on this Hulu ads, post our link on your "bliggidy-blogs, and your facey-spaces, and your tweetie-pages." Help make us the kinds of social media by linking the latest (or your favorite) cartoons to your friends and buddies. Share us with your friends and family.

Heck, even if they don't make us any money, we just like to have them here. They'll never know unless you tell them.

And hey, one other very indirect way you can support us. Buy our danged books, starting with my story in the new DAW anthology "Swordplay," and in these other fine anthologies, still available...

And if you order them through Amazon, we get a cut AND potential royalties down the road.

Boy, it's amazing how much of a whining mooch I can be when I'm not even here! Dang, I am evil!

- Your Pledge Drive Master, Steve

Greetings, Exhaust Ports!

Lots to talk about this week, so hang with me here...

I'm running dangerously close to late this week, but I just got the new, larger, bigger, better, "Minions Stage" up and running, and wanted to do a new cartoon shot in the new space. (For a full run-down on the upgrades here at Minions Studios, with pictures, see the previous post.)

Also, I was busy setting up a new "Minions at Work" group on Facebook! If you're on Facebook, be sure to join up and invite all your friends. I'll be posting notices of new cartoons there, and there's a discussion area where you can talk among yourselves for a change. International Shipping from the Lair of Merchandise

We had a question in our comment section last week asking if items from the "Lair of Merchandise" can be shipped internationally. Indeed they can!

Keep in mind that the Lair of Merchandise (and "Number Two's House of Naughty" as well) is operated in conjunction with Cafe Press, who handles all the payments, shipping, etc., and set all the policies. Here are the details on international shipping, rates, etc.

The questioner also asked about price conversion. Far as I know (and again, Cafe Press handles this), your credit card will be charged in U.S. dollars, and your bank or card company will do the conversion at the time of charge at the current rate of exchange. Meaning you may have to do a little research to figure out what the approximate charges in your local currency will be, and it may vary slightly from what you figured because exchange rates change constantly.

The good news is, from what I can see, the international economy shipping rates look pretty reasonable. We surly appreciate our fans from around the world. We love to hear from you, and we hope you'll wear your Minion colors (black and white, mainly) proudly!

As for the Lair Gift Shop, that's an Amazon U.S. Affiliate store, and it doesn't appear that you can order there outside the U.S. Other international Amazon sites such as Amazon UK or Amazon DK may offer some of the same items, or not, but you'll have to find them yourself, and far as I know, clicking through our links won't generate any cash for us. But we sure appreciate the thought.

Anyway, I've got to hurry if I'm going to get this out by midnight. See you back here at the improved Minions Studios next week!

A Tower of Truth (evil truth) from Minion Central:

Greetings, Followers of feloniousness,

Spring is sprung, so it seemed appropriate to take the Minions outside. Well, actually, it was raining here, but luckily we had some outdoor shots from last summer just awaiting editing and a good caption. I do hope to get the Minions out on location a time or two this spring and summer though, when the weather permits.

Hey, don't forget to check our sidebar (that's over to the side of your screen there), as I'll try to add at least some new bit of fun and amusement every week. It may be subtle, and it may not happen on Monday at the same time as the new cartoon, but it will be there...

See y'all next week.
