Greetings, Double-threat-half-wits!


I've been editing video this weekend.  The bad news, it has absolutely nothing at all to do with Minions at Work!  Ha!

In fact, I've been too busy on other projects to do anything major with the Minions at all, save shooting today's cartoon.  But I have been scheming a bit.  I'm thinking about putting together some Minions cartoon collections in ebook form and releasing them through the Amazon Kindle Store (and possibly other ebook platforms as well).  While the Kindle device itself is black-and-white and not very good with images, there are lots of color platforms running Kindle apps now (iPad, PC, Mac, iPhone, Android, etc.) which might make it worthwhile.

Right now, I'm figuring each book would consist of about 25 selected old cartoons, some new material, and a bunch of new supporting text.  Price to be determined, but it would be $2.99 or less.  Yes, most of this would be material already available for free on the web, but that would hardly be unprecedented in the blog/web-comic-to-book world.  Lots of people have done it, done it quite successfully, even when they're careful to point out that most of the content is free on the web.  Some people just prefer getting things in ebook form, and don't mind paying a little to get it that way.

Of course, it would be another way for you guys to possibly support our evil enterprises at the lair and conveniently show "Minions at Work" to your friends.  But I'm also thinking we might reach a new audience who aren't the web-comic type.

Anyway, as always, your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are valued and ignored (or, if we like them, stolen), so enter a comment if you have any thoughts.

Yes, the post is running a few hours late this week.  We had some unreliable power problems here at the lair this afternoon.  As usual, I blame the forces of Good!  I mean, this has been happening for the last month on an irregular basis!  You can't convince me there isn't some sort of conspiracy involved.  This whole line the power company is giving us about "the fog" causing "salt-buildup" on the wires in "a way we've never seen before."  I'm supposed to believe this?  It's either a bad SyFy channel movie, or meddling by the forces of Good.  I choose the latter.

Greetings, Seat Swappers!


Well, it's post-Comicon, and we're exhausted!  Actually, we didn't go this year, but it's STILL exhausting, just keeping up with all the posts on news sites.  This year's stabbing (such as it is) reminds us why we stopped going, despite all the cool stuff that goes on there.  Yes, it's amazing.  Yes, you should go (at least once).  Yes, you should hurry up and do it while you're young enough and indestructible enough to enjoy it.

But nobody really goes to Comicon any more.  It's too crowded.

We've had a devil of a time getting this week's cartoon posted.  Out power has been blipping out for just a second at a time.  Trouble is, it's been doing it for three days, and sometimes as often as every 20 minutes.  Every time it goes, my desktop computer goes down as well, and that's where I do all my Minions work.

You say, "Steve, don't you have a UPS on that thing?"  Well, I was going to say that I do, but it doesn't work.  The local power grid chews them up and spits them out in about three months.  But do I really need to explain?  I mean, what evil lair has EVER had working emergency equipment?  No, it's pretty much twist a large, colorful, clearly labeled dial and the whole thing blows up.  It's some kind of law of the universe.

Anyway,  the power company is sympathetic, but they're reporting mysterious "salt build-ups" on the wires that have "never happened before," and "suddenly started happening this week, and we don't know why."  Also, they say it has something to do with a "fog from the ocean."

Now, I'm I wrong here, or is this the first act of of a SyFy original movie?

Actually, I'd suspect some kind of evil plan against us, EXCEPT WE PRETTY MUCH ARE AN EVIL PLAN!"  I suspect the forces of Good.  Damn, those guys are getting sneaky...

I'm back to shooting new material, and hoping to build up some substantial inventory again.


I'm still considering the details of moving this site to ComicPress.  Pretty sure I'll do it, but the when is still up in the air.  I suspect that when I do, I'll keep this site live while I gradually repost our inventory of archived comics to the new site as "Minions Classic."  There are a LOT of new projects going on here at the Lair-of-ideas, of which Minions is only a part.  Hopefully you'll be hearing about some other cool stuff we're up to in coming months.

Greetings, Hoard of Ignored!


Yes, I totally blew-off posting Minions last week.  So shoot me.  I've haven't done that too often in the years I've been doing this comic, so I feel like I had a freebie coming.  Besides, to make up for it, I posted an inventory-clearing TRIPLE FEATURE this week, based on the always-popular theme of "heads."

Actually, it was just the cartoon I intended to post last week, and a couple of dusty toons that have been at the bottom of the inventory forever.  Don't tell.  Heck, for all I know, these are the three funniest Minions at Work cartoons ever!  (But probably not.)

Anyway, it's been a week of it here.  Lots of behind-the-scenes stuff happening here at the Lair, some of it good, some of it Not Good.  Nothing I'm going to go into here.  Just distractions.  Also, shaking fist at one-eyed-yellow-Tylenol-Minions-Come-Lately!  Take that, you and your bazillions of dollars!

I'm also doing a lot of soul-searching about doing a major Site remodel, dumping our current Blogger Platform, and going to Wordpress with a nifty-looking web-comic-designed theme called CartoonPress.  Take a look here to see what I'm talking about.  It would look much more professional and be much easier to navigate (especially when looking through the archives).

On the down side, I've have to migrate 200+ old cartoons and a lot of other content over, do a lot of set-up and design work, and it would add monthly hosting fees (plus the suggested donation for the theme, which I'd feel-honor bound to pay).  I'd also have the issue about what to do with the old site.  Leave it up on blogger? Try and buy a new domain for the new site?  And since a lot of our traffic comes in from TVTropes.org where they have tons of direct links to cartoons.  All of these would be broken if I put the new site at www.MinionsAtWork.com.

So I'll probably do it, but how and when remain to be seen.  If you think it's a good idea, let me know.  You can also help keep the lights (and pay our hosting fees) by making a small contribution using the button below, shopping on Amazon using our links, or buying swag from one of our stores (and thanks to those of you already doing that).  One thing I'd REALLY like to tone down would be to eliminate the weekly pan-handling here and replace them with some discrete buttons, banners, and menu options.  So the move would all-around be good for you guys.

Greetings, Pitfalls and Bottom-feeders!


We're in California at the moment, enjoying the sun and plotting our evil plans.  This afternoon we have tickets to see a taping of "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson," on CBS.  As a fellow-practitioner of the hollow-volcano business, we're going to be studying his robot skeleton sidekick for evil technologies that we can steal -- uh -- homage!


Anyway, off to Hollywood (America's "Axis of Evil") and we'll see you back here next week.

Greetings, Vision-restrictive head-cases!


I keep thinking things are going to slack off here at the lair so I can get some inventory in place, but it just hasn't happened.  In fact, I was scrambling just to get a cartoon for this week.  Next week is our road-trip to Nevada and California, so I'd BETTER have something in place by then.  I've very rarely ever missed a week in our four years (!) of doing this, and I'd hate to start now.

Thanks to those who have made donations, bought things from our stores, and clicked through our Amazon links to do your shopping!  Unfortunately, I don't have things set up so I can always tell WHICH of our multiple sites the clicks and donations are coming through (I know, I should fix that), but they ARE appreciated, wherever they're coming from!  They encourage us to keep this crazy thing going, despite all the grief it is some weeks!
